Antagonism and Propaganda (1875 – 1945)

 

During this period, and because of the cold relationships between France and Germany, school books of those two countries were mainly designed and written in order to:

To claim their respective nationalism (and borders resulted from the previous conflict : “Modern Handbook” for Alsace Lorraine schools.(Metz, 1875).

To give a biased historical point of view of their mutual conflicts.

A counterexample of the French-German Handbook:

«A little story of France in War» dedicated to the Alsace Lorraine people. Published in 1919: the aim of this history handbook of propaganda: explaining how the Germany was totally guilty of the 1st World War, and how courageous was the France to fight for those two regions.
