Introduction
Focus: Apart from the French German history handbook, which will be analyzed, the essay will focus on the part of the chosen handbooks dedicated to the French German recent history (i.e. War of 1870, first and second World War). Justification: underlining the importance of the common French-German History Manual dealing with such sensitive issues (3 major war conflicts in one century: 1870-1945) “Teamwork between historians from countries or regions in post-conflict situations adds a certain dynamic to the process of mutual understanding”. The essay analyzes how to teach History in the French German area: it is relevant to analyze the attempts to set up common History Manuals during the past century, especially between those two countries with many war conflicts. The outgrowth of those tries: the French-German History Manual published by Nathan/Klett. With the publication of the French German history handbook in 2006, the initial reactions were unanimous to underline the initiative which exceeded for the first time the national framework in the way of teaching history.
