How to describe the sourcesPage 2 of 3
The following examples try to illustrate all the points which have been explained: the need for a complete title which may include information on the recipients, the level or grade of instruction, the subjects or disciplines, the publishing or printing house or library. 1. 2. BOLINAGA, Josefina. Yo tendré un hogar. Economía. Arte. Higiene. Felicidad. Madrid: Librería General de Victoriano Suárez, 1952. 3. CHAS, Allen H.; SWETT, John; and ROYCE, Josiah. The American Elocutionary Readers. Fifth Reader. New York: American Book Co., 1873. 4. Bruxelle: Maison d’Édition A. De Boeck, 1934. 5. HARM, Marie and WIEHLE, Hermann. Lebenskunde für Mittelschulen. Fünfter Teil. Klasse 5 für Mädchen. Halle: Hermann Schroedel Verlag, 1942. 6. BRODIE, Andrew. Across the Curriculum. Geography. For ages 6-7. London: A & C Black Publishers Limited, 2005. As seen in the examples, we have not yet explained two important elements, both of them numeric: the year of edition and the number of editions. The year of publication is extremely important information which sometimes is not clearly shown or is simply omitted. It may be found under the title, next to the publishing house or next to the legal deposit reference number. When we make a chronological approximation deduced from the reading of the prologue or the introduction, we proceed by writing the year with an interrogation mark next to it: 1849? Similarly, when the only year of reference is the one we find in the copyright, we write a “c” before the year: c1989.
