The Essay "The Birth of the School Subjects in Pre-Unification Piedmont" has been developed by the National Workgroup of the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the University of Turin - IT (click here to access the information on the Workgroup).

The aim of the research is to investigate the birth and the development of the school subjects in Piedmont (the region around Turin) before the unification of Italy, when the Piedmont’s model of school was extended to all the Country becoming the national one.
This goal will be reached by exploring the history of the textbooks, but also of their authors and publishers, as well as the evolution of the laws and of the rules which directed the piedmont’s school between 1815 and 1861.
