Chapter 8Caricatures as Historical Sources
Introduction This Chapter, developed by Carl von Ossietzky Universität (DE), analyses how the character of a caricature- which can be definedas a (slightly) exaggerated drawn statement – shows its value for a problem-centered history lesson and therefore the different purposes of caricatures during the centuries will be described. This paragraph will explain the different stylistic device that can be used by illustrators, furhtermore it will give detailed instructions about how to interpret these kind of historical sources. The chapter will also address how the medium caricature is being used for ages in textbooks and how its perspective challenges pupils’ forming of opinions.
