20 Years of School Textbooks History in Romania (1989-2009)

The Essay "20 Years of School Textbooks History in Romania (1989-2009)" has been developed by the National Workgroup of the National School of Political Studies and Public Administration (click here to access the information on the Workgroup).

The Essay will analyse the handbooks published in Romania after 1989 for secondary education, more precisely from the curricular areas of Man and Society and Language and Communication. 

The selection will facilitate the understanding of the effort to participate, through the written curriculum, in the development of a new type of identity, opposed to the communist one.

The Essay will study this process from a historical perspective, analysing textbooks by taking into consideration the evolution of the Romanian society during the last 20 years, from the point of view of the acceptance of pluralist strategies of tackling in the written curriculum: giving up the position of the unique party, the unique truth, the unique strategy of maintaining a point of view.
